In short
- Does charging count?
- Public charge points only
- Do measured kWh from a home charger count?
- No
- Since when?
- Planned from 1 January 2027
The scheme
- Name
- Créditos de electricidad renovable (RD 611/2026)
- In English
- Renewable electricity credits
- Who earns
- From 1 January 2027, operators of public charge points only. There is no scheme yet for private charge points (a home, a garage); the decree allows one later, once a separate ministerial order sets the technical rules, and there is no draft of that order.
- Who may bundle
- For private charge points the decree allows taking part directly or through an aggregator of electric vehicle consumption (agregador de consumos de vehículos eléctricos), once that order exists.
- What has to be measured
- Under the draft order for public charge points, the grid operator REE supplies the session data from the reporting system for public charge points, and only kWh charged between 10:00 and 18:00 count.
- What it is worth
- One credit is 1 MWh of renewable electricity. For a home charger 0 to 26 euros a year under the draft, 50 to 210 euros under the decree alone (our own calculation).
Other rules for charging
- Other schemes and rules
- Energy saving certificates (CAE) for replacing a combustion car with an electric one pay out once, about 750 euros, and use no meter data; that is a different scheme.
What Plugchoice does here
For operators of public charge points, Plugchoice runs next to the existing back office; under the draft order the session data for the credits comes from REE, not from the operator's software.
