Charging a shared building on one connection
An apartment building has a single main connection and a growing number of residents who want to charge. Plugchoice shares the power across the charge points, tracks what each resident used, and does it on chargers of any brand.
The main fuse is the limit
In a shared building the question is rarely the charger, it is what the building can carry. Four residents charging at full power at once draw more than most buildings have spare.
Dynamic load balancing
A meter reports what the rest of the building is drawing and the allowance for the charge points is adjusted in real time, so the main fuse is never exceeded. This is part of the free platform.
Power sharing across charge points
Available current goes to the points actually charging rather than being reserved per socket, which is what lets a building fit more charge points than its fuse would otherwise allow. Part of the Smart Charging module.
Charging in the cheap hours
On a dynamic contract charging follows the hourly price, or you set fixed off-peak windows yourself. The resident does not have to do anything.

The platform is free for every OCPP charger you connect. None of the following costs extra.
Any brand, no lock-in
One account manages every OCPP charger in the building regardless of who made it. If the building picks a different brand later, nothing about the management changes.
Real-time status per charge point
Per connector you see whether it is free, charging, finishing or faulted, in one vocabulary across every brand.
Charge cards per resident
You decide which cards may start a session, per charge point or for the whole building. A card the reader has merely seen can be added with one tap.
Remote start, stop and unlock
When a cable is stuck or a session has to end, you handle it from the portal or the app instead of driving to the car park.
Session history per card
Every completed session with start and stop time, kWh, connector and the card that started it, kept per charge point and per site.
CSV and Excel export
Sessions and meter data download as a file, so the treasurer or the building manager can work with the numbers without an integration project.
Settling with residents
A shared building has to be able to show who used what. That starts with a card per resident and a complete history: every session hangs off the card that started it, and you export that data per period into the accounts.
Automatic per-resident invoicing is part of the Billing module, expected in Q4 2026. Until then the export is the route.
Pick your own booking provider
Where energy tax reclaim runs through a booking provider, you choose one yourself from several and connect with a single click. Switching later is possible too: the chargers, the account and the history stay exactly where they are.
Ready for the EPBD
The EPBD sets requirements for charge points and pre-cabling in buildings, scaled by the number of parking spaces. A socket alone is not enough: the points have to be able to modulate their power. That is exactly what smart charging on any OCPP charger does.
Alongside your existing backoffice
If a platform is already running, nothing has to be migrated. The charger keeps one OCPP connection, to us, and we relay it onward to the backoffice it was already talking to. Nothing goes offline and nobody visits the site. That makes the decision reversible, which helps when the owners still have to vote on it.
