The scheme
- Name
- Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (renewable electricity)
- In English
- Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation
- Who earns
- Only the operator of a publicly accessible charge point on the IDRO register. A driveway, apartment parking, staff-only office parking and an own depot are not publicly accessible.
- Who may bundle
- The law names the operator; at least one service provider offers to validate, file and sell for operators.
- What has to be measured
- No MID requirement: kWh per charge point per month from the charge point records, with the MPRN per line and an ISAE 3000 check every quarter.
- What it is worth
- At most about 0.30 euros per kWh of grid electricity (the buy-out price); the market price is not public.
Other rules for charging
- Employer reimbursement of home charging
- Reimbursing home electricity is tax-free with sufficient supporting documents; there is no meter requirement. A home charger that the employer keeps owning is free of benefit in kind for a battery electric car.
- Other schemes and rules
- SEAI grants for apartment buildings run through registered operators and require access to charging data; for the home charger grant, the charger must be on the Smart Charger Register.
What Plugchoice does here
For an operator of public charge points, Plugchoice runs next to the existing back office and exports the sessions per charge point as CSV, Excel or PDF for the operator's own filing.
