Data Act information

Updated 30 October 2026

Version 2026-2, effective 2026-10-30.

This page gives the information the EU Data Act (Regulation (EU) 2023/2854) requires, before you sign up or activate a Module, about the data your Charger and our Platform generate. Capitalized terms are defined in our Definitions, version 2026-2. Personal data also follows our Privacy Policy.

1. Who holds the data

We do: Volt Time B.V., also trading as Plugchoice (KvK 77488873, De Entree 99, 1101 HE Amsterdam, the Netherlands). Send questions and requests to support@plugchoice.com.

2. What data is generated

A Charger connected to our Platform, and the Platform, generate:

  • Charger communication: OCPP messages between Charger and Platform, and their logs.
  • Status and setup: connection and Connector status, configuration, Firmware version, faults and diagnostics.
  • Charging Sessions: start and stop, energy, meter values, the Charge Card used and why the session stopped.
  • Meter data: if you add a meter, its readings, identifiers and status.
  • Smart charging and load data: your limits, schedules and settings, and the grid and load values the Platform uses to steer your Chargers.
  • Account and location data: what you or your installer enter, such as a location's address and setup, Team members and Charge Cards.

Format: Chargers send OCPP messages in JSON.

Volume: depends on the Charger, its Firmware and its use, typically tens of megabytes a month; ask us for an estimate.

How often: continuously and in real time while a Charger is connected: events as they occur, and meter values at the interval set in the Charger.

Where and how long: on our Platform, hosted in the EU, and with the providers on our Subprocessor List, for the periods in section 7 of the Privacy Policy.

Jurisdiction: our Platform runs in the EU under EU law; providers on our Subprocessor List outside the EU are also subject to their own country's law. We give non-personal data to an authority outside the EU only as article 32 of the Data Act allows, and protect it with encryption in transit and access control.

3. What we do with the data

We use the data to provide the Platform and the Modules you activate, to secure, support, improve and develop our services, and to choose and time offers of our own products and of other companies as our Privacy Policy sets out; those companies get no data from this unless you request their offer or allow it. We may use data that is not personal data, and data we derive from it, for any purpose, also in paid services for others. Others get from us only data that combines several customers and identifies neither you, your locations nor anyone else. The rules are in General Terms clauses 10.3 to 10.5 and Consumer Terms clauses 6.3 and 6.4.

4. How you get your data

  • In the Web Portal and the apps, as it comes in.
  • As exports and through our API, as our data export page sets out.
  • On request, for data you cannot get these ways: email us. Where the law does not require this free of charge, we charge the price we state before we start (General Terms clause 11.4).
  • Erasure: deleting your account removes its personal data as section 7 of the Privacy Policy sets out; a Charger that stays connected keeps sending data until it is disconnected. A Business Customer can have its exportable data erased under General Terms clause 15.5(h).

If you own or use a Charger registered in another company's account, you can ask us for its data (General Terms clause 10.8).

5. Having your data shared with another company

  • In the Platform: connect your Charger to a charging operator, a company you choose for energy credits or an app that uses our API, also by setting your Charger up in that company's app. That company receives the data its service needs; a company for energy credits, only what our agreement with it describes. You see and end every connection in the Platform.
  • On request: ask us to make your Charger's data available to a company you choose, and email us to stop it.

Where you use your Data Act right to have data shared with a company, that company emails support@plugchoice.com, states which Chargers and whose request it concerns, and before we make data available accepts our terms: it complies with article 6 of the Data Act, keeps trade secrets confidential under the measures we agree (section 6), and pays the price we state beforehand for our service of making the data available, such as the connection, its availability and support, within article 9 of the Data Act and unless that Act makes it free; we never charge for the data itself. We choose how we make the data available, within the Data Act; that is not forwarding OCPP traffic unless we agree to it In Writing, and never sending commands to a Charger (General Terms clause 8.8).

6. What you do not get

Data we derive by combining data of several customers or by our own analysis, aggregated data and our databases, including our charger compatibility database, are not part of the data you can export or have shared (General Terms clauses 10.4 and 15.5(c)). If requested data includes trade secrets of ours or of another company, we may first agree measures to keep them confidential.

7. Term and switching

The Platform agreement runs until you or we end it; paid Modules run for the period paid for (General Terms clause 15, Consumer Terms clause 11). To switch to another provider or your own systems, email us; General Terms clause 15.5 applies, for Consumers together with Consumer Terms clause 3.5. If you switch or have data erased before a fixed term ends, General Terms clause 15.5(e) sets the fees that remain due. A Plugchoice SIM connects only to our Platform, so arrange another connection when you switch (General Terms Schedule F).

8. Complaints

Contact us first. You can also complain to the authority that supervises the Data Act in your EU country and, for personal data, to the data protection authority in your country or the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).
