The Monitor Slim Laden, the yearly measurement from the Dutch government programme Slim Laden voor Iedereen, part of the Nationale Agenda Laadinfrastructuur, published on September 8, 2026, puts 57 percent of all Dutch charging sessions in 2025 on smart charging, meaning the session is steered by an external signal rather than simply starting the moment the cable is plugged in. That is up from 55 percent in 2024.
Public charge points showed the biggest jump within the total: 51 percent of public sessions ran smart in 2025, up from 40 percent a year earlier. Workplace charging moved fastest of all, from 28 to 45 percent. The monitor is built with the Hogeschool van Amsterdam as part of the wider NAL programme tracking the Netherlands' charging infrastructure rollout.
It is a government figure, not a vendor claim, for what has become the default way of charging in the Netherlands: a backend deciding when a session runs, not the driver plugging in and hoping.
