Easee has opened a native OCPP 1.6J connection on its chargers with firmware 344, rolled out over the air from September 10, 2026, across nearly the whole range: Home, Charge, One, Core, Up, Max and Pro. Called Direct OCPP, it lets a charger hold a direct connection to a third-party OCPP backend, including the OCPP 1.6 SmartCharging feature profile, instead of only ever talking to Easee Cloud.
The feature ships in beta, and the conditions matter before switching a fleet over. It runs over WiFi only, Easee's own developer docs confirm, with no mobile connectivity. During the beta the charger keeps sending telemetry to Easee Cloud in parallel, which Easee calls DualProtocol, and an Easee maintainer has confirmed phase switching is not yet available over the direct connection because no OCPP standard covers it. Support runs through the Easee Connect app, since Easee has less diagnostic visibility once a charger is reporting to another backend.
Easee already lets installers connect its chargers to Plugchoice from inside the Easee app. Direct OCPP adds a second, backend-native path to the same hardware, on the protocol Plugchoice has run on from day one.
