Monta adds Plugsurfing's network, pushing European roaming past 1 million points

Monta has wired Plugsurfing's roaming network into its platform over OCPI, the protocol that lets charging networks share access with each other. According to electrive, the move adds more than 137,000 high-power points and takes Monta's European roaming coverage past 1 million charge points across 26 countries, with operators getting the wider network without signing a separate roaming contract.

Roaming is the layer that decides where a driver can actually charge, while OCPP is the layer that decides who manages the charger. They are different jobs: a charger still connects to one backoffice over OCPP, and roaming sits above it. Plugchoice connects OCPP chargers of any brand; roaming reach like this is a reminder that the network and the management layer are separate choices.
