ChargePoint and Mercedes-Benz announced in early August 2026 that business customers in the UK and Germany can now buy workplace EV charging as one package alongside their fleet vehicles. The offer covers site assessment and planning, professional installation, operation and ongoing support, built on ChargePoint AC and DC hardware plus its smart energy management and fleet charging software, with solar PV and battery storage available as an add-on. It covers company cars and light and medium-duty vans, and ChargePoint says other markets are planned later in 2026.
"Our business customers expect solutions that extend far beyond the vehicle itself," said Nico Dettmer, Global Head of Mercedes-Benz Charging Solutions. "With our new workplace charging offering, we are closing a key gap in the charging ecosystem for fleet customers, complementing both home and public charging."
That is a fair way to put it, and the convenience is real: one contract, one point of contact, and a fleet buyer never has to separately source a charging vendor. The trade-off is the one that comes with any bundle. The chargers, the energy management and the fleet software are all ChargePoint's, sold through the vehicle manufacturer, which means whoever signs up is tying the charging side of the depot to ChargePoint's own roadmap for as long as the vans are on the books, whether or not that stays the best option for the site.
Nothing here says ChargePoint hardware is closed. It is an OCPP charge point like most others on the market. The part that is genuinely vendor-specific is the software above it, and that is also the part a site can keep separate: an OCPP backend can run the same ChargePoint hardware, or hardware from a different brand parked next to it, without the fleet's charging management being tied to whoever sold the vehicles.
