EVN, the Austrian utility, announced on September 2, 2026 that its subsidiary EVN Energieservices has acquired 100 percent of the shares in BayWa Mobility Charging from BayWa Mobility Solutions. No price was disclosed. The network is 30 locations and 170 public high-power charging points up to 400 kW, concentrated in Bavaria with sites in Baden-Wuerttemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia. EVN says it plans to reach 54 locations and 306 HPC points by 2027, which makes this its entry into the German charging market.
Heise adds the piece the corporate release and electrive leave out: BayWa Mobility Solutions is selling inside a StaRUG restructuring at BayWa AG, aimed at cutting roughly 2.7 billion euros of debt by 2030. So this is a healthy network changing hands for balance-sheet reasons rather than a failing one being rescued, which is a different story for the sites involved.
This is public fast charging, so it is not the private-terrain AC market most Plugchoice customers run in. It is worth a note anyway, because it is the second DACH consolidation of an operator into a larger group this quarter, and because it shows a pattern that does reach private sites: the company that owns your charge points, your supply contract and your customer relationship can be replaced without you moving a single charger.
That is the argument for keeping the backend separable from the hardware. A charger that speaks plain OCPP can follow you to a new operator or platform; one that is locked to a vendor's cloud follows the vendor.
