Dutch grid operators pay 20 providers to keep home charging out of the evening peak this winter

3. november 2026 | Uudised | 2 min read

The Dutch regional grid operators Enexis, Liander and Stedin are paying for home charging that avoids the evening peak this winter. Under Netbewust Thuisladen, 20 providers shift their customers' charging as far as possible out of 16:00 to 21:00 on weekdays from November to February, Solar Magazine reported on October 29, 2026. The grid operators pay each provider up to 5 euros per participant per month, as long as it keeps to the agreements.

The providers are 1Komma5°, 50five, ANWB, Arval, Axle Energy, Ayvens, BlueBird Power, Blue Current, Chargee, Eneco, ENGIE, Essent, Frank Energie, Next Energy, PowerD, Road, Shuttel, Stekker, Tibber and Vattenfall. Drivers join through their energy supplier, charger provider or lease company, usually in the app they already charge with. Joining is voluntary and the function can be switched off to charge straight away. Ayvens said in its own announcement the same day that its cars charge at minimum power between 16:00 and 21:00 and at full power outside it. Plugchoice runs smart charging for chargers of many brands.

What it means

Moving a session out of a fixed window takes a schedule. In Plugchoice, scheduled charging and start and stop windows run in the platform and reach the charger over standard OCPP, so a basic charger can follow them too. How charging profiles do that: OCPP smart charging profiles.
