Earn from every kWh with Joulo and Plugchoice
Joulo is a Dutch ERE booking service provider. Connect it to Plugchoice and your charging sessions are turned into green energy certificates automatically, with the revenue paid back to the charger owner.
What Joulo does and why it runs on Plugchoice
Joulo is a licensed booking service provider (inboekdienstverlener) for the Dutch ERE scheme. Every kWh delivered to an electric car at a station with a MID-certified meter can be converted into an Energy Registration Unit. Fuel companies are obliged to buy these units, so the certificates carry real value. Joulo registers them with the Dutch Emissions Authority (NEa) and pays the proceeds back to the charger owner, minus its commission.
Plugchoice sits between your chargers and Joulo. The charger stays connected to your own backoffice through the OCPP Proxy, while Plugchoice normalizes the session data across every charger brand and hands Joulo one clean, verified feed. The owner authorizes Joulo once and the certificates flow on their own from there.

What you get with Joulo and Plugchoice
Certificates from every session
Each eligible kWh on a MID-metered charger becomes an Energy Registration Unit, registered with the NEa by Joulo.
Passive revenue for owners
The value of the certificates is paid back to the charger owner. A charger turns from a cost into an earning asset.
Compliance handled for you
Joulo is the licensed booker. It deals with the NEa registration and the regulated market, so you do not need ERE expertise.
Automatic, verified data
Plugchoice sends Joulo verified session data over the API, normalized across every OCPP charger brand. No manual exports.

Joulo registers the kWh
Joulo takes the verified session data and registers the certificates with the Dutch Emissions Authority on the owner's behalf.
Get paid the share
Joulo sells the certificates and pays the proceeds back to the owner, keeping its commission. Nothing else to manage.
Frequently asked questions
What is ERE?
ERE is the Dutch system for green energy certificates in transport. Every kWh used to charge an electric car from the grid can be converted into an Energy Registration Unit, which fuel companies buy to meet their renewable energy obligations.
What does Joulo do exactly?
Joulo is a licensed booking service provider. It takes your verified charging sessions, registers the certificates with the Dutch Emissions Authority (NEa), sells them on the regulated market and pays the proceeds back to you, minus its commission.
Do I need a special meter?
Yes. Only kWh measured by a MID-certified meter count for ERE. Most modern chargers have one. Plugchoice flags which chargers in your fleet are eligible.
How does Joulo get my charging data?
Through Plugchoice. You authorize Joulo once, and Plugchoice sends it verified session data over the API, normalized across every charger brand. There is nothing to export by hand.
Can I keep my existing backoffice?
Yes. The OCPP Proxy keeps your charger connected to your current backoffice while Plugchoice supplies the ERE data to Joulo at the same time.
What does it cost?
Joulo works on commission, so there are no upfront costs. It keeps a 19% share of the certificate value and pays out the rest. Charger management on Plugchoice is free.
